Sunni-Shia Dialogue On Human Rights And Pluralism In Sweden

In September 2010 in Lund, Sweden, the Salam Institute for Peace and Justice and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) brought together some of the world’s foremost Islamic peacebuilding scholars from Iran, Europe and the United States for a two-day conference. This conference was a continuation of a multi-phase effort, beginning in October 2007, to foster relationships through discussion of Islamic sources of peace and nonviolence. These scholars discussed Sunni and Shia perspectives and mechanisms for peace, identified effective strategies to promote peacebuilding, and discussed academic, political, religious and economic perspectives on democracy, human rights, conflict resolution and peacebuilding. The conference concluded with a call for future collaboration and the hope that a compilation of all papers presented in the conference will be produced
