On February 2-3, 2015, the Salam Institute for Peace and Justice convened The Amman Message: A Conference on Love and Forgiveness at the Century Park Hotel in Jabal Amman, Jordan. The conference presented powerful, personal stories of religiously-inspired forgiveness by Muslim and Christian individuals from the Middle East and the United States. On February 4, the conference followed by public talks on forgiveness by the guests and local notables at Mount Nebo and the Jesus Mosque in Madaba.
In collaboration with the Royal Institute for Interfaith Studies, and graciously supported by the Fetzer Institute, the project aimed to highlight positive exemplars of solidarity, love, and compassionate acts between Muslims and Christians from the United States and Middle East societies in order to break stereotypes, and provide hope and optimism to the younger generation and general public. The project also built and maintained sustainable relationships between religious leaders from both societies.
