The civic education program in Iraq was developed by the United States Institute for Peace (USIP) and has been implemented since 2009. The Salam Institute staff and consultants act as external resource experts on this project, facilitating the design and training of over a hundred teacher trainers and administrators from Kurdistan and all other areas of Iraq in civic education values, teaching methods, and teaching assessments. As a part of this program, they have produced, in collaboration with the local Iraqi educators, the first civic education manual in Arabic for teachers in Iraq. The manual is currently being disseminated by the Ministry of Education in both Baghdad and Kurdistan.
