Critical Thinking And Emotional Literacy In Nonformal Education

In partnership with the University of Michigan and Northwestern University and funded by USAID, this action research project aims to evaluate the barriers that have limited the success of nonformal education (NFE) across the Middle East and North Africa, particularly as it applies to critical thinking and emotional literacy. It sets out to obtain and use information gathered from nationally representative public opinion surveys to design interventions on critical thinking and emotional literacy that are tailored to specific regions, and their conditions and cultural contexts, and then to test the effectiveness of these interventions. The interventions are informed by existing programs on critical thinking developed by the National Science Foundation and based on previous social-emotional interventions that have been developed by the Salam Institute in their Forgiveness and Civic Education programs and piloted in Chad, Jordan, Kurdistan, Lebanon, and Palestine.
